Organizing the Hall Closet
Last summer I was lucky enough to be my clients birthday gift! I met her and her husband for a whole home organizing consultation to learn about what areas were particularly troublesome. One particularly bothersome space was her hall closet. A generous size given the relatively small home, but so much space was wasted! I knew there was a better way!
When asked what she wanted this closet to do – in her dream scenario – she said wanted to place her Christmas decorations and fine china in there instead of in the attic (a good idea!). Her demands weren’t very high; I think that was because she couldn’t see the potential of this space. (But I could!)
I knew I wanted to reuse the shelving we pulled out of the pantry – why let it go to waste if we could really put it to work? (And she was all about reusing whatever we could!) So with that in mind, I drew up some plans of how to better use the space. We discussed the need to work around the home security equipment that was in the middle of the wall, and determined the pantry shelves, because they were not the entire length of the closet turned out to be exactly what was needed. I love how it worked out that way.
After the carpenter completed the built-ins in the upper part of the closet, together she and I installed the pantry shelves and loaded them up with everything that prior to now didn’t have a proper home. Wow did we get a lot of stuff in that closet! By re-configuring and organizing the closet it became so functional, and it looks good too! My client fell madly in love with her closet! She shared how she would just stop and open the closet door just to admire it, it brought her that much joy! (Music to me ears!)
Here’s the final result.
Never under estimate the potential of your closets. With some serious, well thought out organizing, it can do WAY more than you realize!
What does your hall closet look like? Are you using it to it’s fullest potential?
Have a happy day!!
